Hi! You have stumbled upon the semi-cohesive ramblings that make up my bucket list! While I cannot promise you that i will achieve everything on this list and then post about it in a timely manner- I CAN promise you with almost utmost certainty that the list will change. often. And why not? Doesn't life change? And with it our goals and hopes and dreams... as well as our circumstances and abilities? Let me start over... Hi! This is a list of thingsthat i will attempt to accomplish and then write about! I hope you enjoy my journey. There will be lots of detours, i am sure, and since i am not really sure of the destination- then one can only hope i will know it when i get there!
And while i am so excited at the idea of someone reading this- this blog is- in all actuality- for me! So editing will be minimal, grammatical errors will be great, and the therapy that is writing will be had. :)

I think in a past life.....

I think that in a past life i was a big, mean, and hairy dude who was over flowing with bad assery. :) I am glad that i am not big, or hairy, or a dude- but i can be mean when it is called for and lord knows i  could use a little bad assery.

Part One

Part one of my two part article in foster focus magazine comes out in april!  I am so excited! Foster care is a subject near and dear to my heart and working with the editor of foster focus (Chris) was a great expirience. He was very understanding that i have a three year old at home and a six year old that has school- but requires a lot of attention when he gets off of the bus in the afternoons. I probably took longer than the average bear to get everything finished, re-edited, and turned in- but like i said- Chris was super nice about it.
I am turning 28 on saturday. I am not to thrilled about it- but it is like my mawmaw Hart says- it beats the alternative! lol. Other than that i really don't have to much going on at the moment. I am working on a short story for a local contest- and in my usualy nature i am cutting it very close to the deadline. I have known for a couple of months about the contest- and that everything is due by the 16- and am only now starting to put my characters on paper. Oh well. I will blame the4 A.D.D. and move on. :) I have not been able to get into running as much as i would like. Hopefully after we move into our new house- i will be able to take it more seriously and set some goals and start really working hard. We are also looking for a good, used, affordable piano to put int the new house so hopefully i will be able to make learning to play a reality as well.  I guess that is about it, though. No life changing happenings this week.

Do you believe that Forks are evolved forms of Spoons?

Do i believe that forks are the  evolved form of spoons? I suppose this could be true- considering that we have the proof of the missing link- the ever elusive "spork." However, this questions assumes that spoons came first. Maybe forks were first, and spoons are just some sort of recessive gene that shows up ever so often. I guess this also depends on your view of evolution. Maybe each  and every fork, spoon, and spork is lovingly made by intelligent design....of course this is assuming that the guy or gal at the fork factory is intelligent... which they very well could be.
So to answer your question- i have to say that i don't know. I do know that in the world of cutlery i would much prefer to be a fork or spoon to the sad existence of the butter knife whose sole purpose is to spread  for everyone.  (bazinga)

Your belly laugh for today...

brought to you courtesy of motivational speaker matt foley from his van down by the river. you are welcome.

I have hit that Lull.....

but I refuse to give in. I am doing ok on goal to write regularly. I conducted interviews and wrote (what i thinks is) a great article for foster focus magazine. The problem is i got a little carried away and it turned into more of a paper, lol. No lie,  it was somewhere around  6500 words. The thing  is- the more interviews i conducted- the more i felt i needed to conduct in order to find out what in the world is going on on the topic (the topic being what happens to youth who age out of foster care in Baton Rouge.) When you write about something that you feel is important- it is hard to decide what to leave out so i have enlisted the help from some family and friends to mark up my article and help me decide what to keep and what to cut. I am also planning on attending a local writers group next month, and of course, to continue blogging.
I can definately tell it is well into the new year because the promise and magic that i feel on January first is all but gone. Don't get me wrong, i am extremely happy, it just feels like it is back to life as usual. It is so easy to get swept up in the hub-bub and forget that THIS IS IT. That there are no do overs here. So if we want an amazing life- then we have to make one for ourselves. Of course i want an amazing life (and i think i have one that is pretty amazing, if ordinary) but i also want ot give my children an amazing life and right now that just means being here for them and being a constant presence in their day to day. Which is good- because i love being a mother more than just about anything. There is nothing like it. Being a Daddy might be a close second..... but I have to say, in my humble (yet biased) opinion that being a mom is still tops.
Hmmmm. What else is going on here that might constitute a post on my bucket list blog..... OH! I know! I am probably not going to be able to make it to Tokyo this year to see my bestie Liz- but when Muhammad can't come to the mountain- the mountain will come ot Muhammad! Well- in this instance we are hopefully meeting somewhere else....JAMAICA! I want to go soooo bad (honestly to see liz more than anything- but seeing the long lost bestie in a tropical paradise doesn't hurt things)and if i can get the financial end worked out - well then- i will be there! We purchased a house this year. Let me change that. We purchased a hundred year old house this year so right now we are sinking all of our extra finances into this huge project- but hopefully i will be able to make it work. I mean- people do Jamaica on the cheap, right? right? lol/
Anyway- at this point i am rambeling, but this blog is my therapy and helps keep me sane and today i just needed to ramble.  (I will get the article up here soon.)

Taking the time.....

Add caption
...to be a better mom everyday! This is something that at first I thought would not be on a bucket list- but really- shouldn't it be on every parents list no matter how big or little your kids are? We can all be better parents and I think we should strive for it. One of my biggest flaws in the parenting department is lack of patience. Since I know this about myself- I try to keep myself in check. Noah was being really fussy and whiny and my knee jerk reaction was to snap at him and make him nap. I am so proud of myself that I took a deep breath and took the time to see what the problem was. Well- he had always been on a certain schedule since he was in day care- and now that he wasn't - it was throwing a wrench in his day. He also was used to always having a brother or friend at school to play with. The good thing about daycare is that kids learn to share- the drawback is that they lose the ability to entertain themselves for more than ten minutes. So that is something that we are going to work on- but not something that i can expect Noah to be able to do immediately. So instead of naps- I took a deep breath and decided that the housework could wait-and played with my child. :) We made home-made bubbles, and used spatulas as the bubble wands. It was really windy outside- so it was the perfect day. We dipped the the spatulas into gumbo pot filled with our home made solution of dawn, water, and a little green coloring (Noah's favorite color). The we spun around- and crazy bubbles went everywhere. Noah had a blast. It was great to watch him Take the spatula- and after the bubbles landed on the grass- squish them. :) When the rain started- we moved the bubble part onto the patio- and the pot became the ocean for his power rangers to swim in. By the time we were done- he was in a happy mood the rest of the day.

Something doesn't have to be huge to be on your bucket list, sometimes the little things are as important as the big ones. If i thought i was going to die tomorrow, then spending more time with my children would be more important than running a marathon anyway.

Being in a Parade..

I know that this one is really silly to most people- but i love parades! How could i not, seeing as how i live in south Louisiana and we have parades for everything? I have always wanted to be on a float and throw beads, and just have a good time.....but never really knew how to go about doing it. Well- this past year was the very first Baton Rouge Halloween Parade. I knew that this was my chance to get in on the parade action. I love love love Halloween, so not only was this a new parade- but one for one of my favorite holidays! I did a little research online- and sent a few emails, and eventually had the forms i needed to register my krewe. The only problem was- I didn't really have  a krewe, yet, and while my friends are some of the most awesome people on the planet- they sometimes don't share my A.D.D. driven enthusiasm for tasks that seem to be kind or...errr.... out of our league.  I thought we would have to settle for being a walking krewe (which was going to take a little more coaxing to get my peeps to agree to walk- but i am sure they would have came around!). Luckily for me- Baton Rouge is still a small town at heart and through family- I actually found out i "knew" some of the founders of the parade. Also luckily enough- They had a krewe that needed a leader- and more members! Krewe of the Cerebrum Snackers was formed- and we our float, which was a zombie wedding theme entitled "just buried" won third place.  Next year we will be bringing home first. ;) I will post pics from the 2011 parade.
